Milestone was founded by George Bukuras, an attorney / CPA. Bukuras’ professional training began at the public accounting firm of Price Waterhouse & Co. (now PwC), before entering the private practice of law where Bukuras was a co-founding partner of Lapping & Bukuras, LLP, a boutique business law firm. In his professional capacities Bukuras has assisted clients with business matters and transactions in numerous industries including manufacturing, food service, environmental services, construction, distribution, and engineering.
As a professional, Bukuras has been a long-time advocate of alternative dispute resolution. Having received his initial training in mediation over two decades ago, Bukuras has experience with mediation in cases involving trust and estate matters, real estate and construction disputes, as well as other matters involving complex commercial litigation. In connection with family mediations, Bukuras often draws on a panel of licensed soft science professionals trained and experienced in family dynamics.
In a Business Advisory role, what truly sets Bukuras apart is that in addition to having experience counseling clients in a professional capacity, Bukuras has had direct operating experience at both the entrepreneur level as well as in more mature corporate environments. Bukuras’ diverse operating experience coupled with his training as a dual professional renders him uniquely qualified to offer business counsel to Milestone’s clients that is broader in scope, and more holistic than might be expected of the typical business lawyer.
While in industry, Bukuras held senior executive level positions in manufacturing and distribution companies with revenues ranging from $25 million to $1.2 billion, engaged in consumer product goods (ORC Foods, Inc., now owned by Progressive Gourmet), water infrastructure and flow control (Mueller Holding Co., now NYSE:MWA), and power transmission (Atlantic / Tracy, Inc., now owned by Genuine Parts). In various of these companies, Bukuras has held positions in virtually all of the functional aspects of business management serving, at various times, in the positions of controller, sales manager, general manager, general counsel, chief compliance officer, chief operating officer and chief executive officer.
George brings the urgency and insight of an entrepreneur to legal matters - and to general business problems he brings a lawyer’s ability to cut through complexity to find the essence of the issue, … George applies his extensive experience and intelligence with grace and integrity. His expertise in corporate governance, his business operating experience, entrepreneurial bent, and legal background combine to create a professional of immense value to any business.

In late 2000, Bukuras participated in a private equity investment when he left his law practice to join Mueller, a DLJ Merchant Banking investment consisting of a number of water flow companies acquired from Tyco International. Recruited by former PwC colleagues, Bukuras served as Mueller’s first inside general counsel to help position the company for profitable sale. In this position, Bukuras provided counsel to the company’s Board of Directors, CEO, officers and senior management on a wide range of business matters, including strategy, acquisitions, divestitures, regulatory matters, and personnel to support continued rapid growth. On behalf of Mueller, Bukuras negotiated and closed numerous M&A transactions valued between $1 million to $2 billion, including the company’s first acquisition in China. In connection with a $1 billion public bond offering, Bukuras was additionally tasked with serving as Mueller’s first Chief Compliance Officer to bring transparency and cultural disciplines to the company by establishing a world-class compliance and ethics system, including an internal audit function for the corporation and its 25+ business units. DLJ exited this investment in late 2005, which continues to be one of the highest returning investments in its merchant banking history.
